Spui square
Spui Square is a pleasant place to walk leisurely, have coffee, read or get works of art and books. In this square stands a small statue called Het Lieverdje, which represents the youth of Amsterdam.
Before becoming the Spui square we know today, this area was a body of water that marked the boundary where the city of Amsterdam ended, until in 1882 the area was "refilled" to become the small and pleasant Spui square .
This cozy square, located very close to the university, was home to the Provo movement in the sixties.
The art markets
One of the main attractions of Plaza Spui are the markets that each week offer its visitors the opportunity to find all kinds of literary or artistic works.
You can take advantage to visit the district of Begijnhof which is in the vicinity of Spui square.
